Firex EC 43 is a heavy-bodied, water-based intumescent coating which is designed to prevent flame spread along the jacketing of electrical (or other) cables and to provide a thermal barrier for protection against heat damage. Firex EC 43 will also prevent a short circuit within an electrical cable from starting a fire and will help identify the location of such a short circuit by forming an intumescent char at the spot. Firex EC 43 can be applied to grouped cables or single cables. Firex EC 43 forms a protective intumescent char when exposed to flame or to a temperature above 350ºF. (This char should be removed completely and clean cables should be recoated if intumescence should occur.) Special Features of Firex EC 43 : 1. Prevents flame spread along the cable jacketing and provides thermal protection to the cables through its intumescent action. a) For protection against surface flame propagation : min 0.50mm dft (2 coats) b) For protection of cable inner core against heat damage /thermal protection when exposed to fire >20 minutes : 1.6-2.0mm dft. (6-7 coats).
